P0302 on a Toyota: Causes, Fixes & Repair Cost
๐ Moderate severity ยท drivable
If the check engine light is flashing, stop driving โ a severe misfire can damage the catalytic converter. A steady light is usually safe for a short drive to a shop.
What P0302 means on a Toyota
On a Toyota, P0302 means the engine computer has detected that cylinder 2 is not firing properly and is failing to contribute its share of power. Because it is a single-cylinder code, the fault is usually confined to cylinder 2 itself, such as its spark plug, ignition coil, or fuel injector.
Is P0302 common on Toyotas?
P0302 shows up on high-mileage Toyotas, commonly on the Camry, Corolla, and RAV4. Worn spark plugs and failing coil-on-plug ignition coils are the usual causes, and Toyota specifies replacing plugs on a set schedule. On many Toyota four-cylinders, cylinder 2 is the second cylinder from the front, easy to reach and cheap to test.
Commonly reported on: Camry, Corolla, RAV4, Highlander.
