P0106 on a Toyota: Causes, Fixes & Repair Cost
๐ Moderate severity ยท drivable
You can usually drive a Toyota short-term with P0106, but a wrong MAP reading can cause rough idle and poor fuel economy, so fix it soon.
What P0106 means on a Toyota
On a Toyota, P0106 means the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor signal is outside the range the engine computer expects for the current conditions. The ECM compares the reading against throttle position and engine speed and finds a mismatch. This usually points to a vacuum leak, a dirty or failing MAP sensor, or a restricted sensor hose.
Is P0106 common on Toyotas?
P0106 is less common on Toyotas than fuel-trim codes, but it shows up on higher-mileage models where vacuum hoses and intake gaskets age and the MAP sensor gets contaminated. A cracked vacuum line or a dirty sensor element are the usual findings. It is a sensor or vacuum fault, not an engine failure.
Commonly reported on: Camry, Corolla, RAV4, Tacoma.
