P0171 on a Chevy: Causes, Fixes & Repair Cost
🟠 Moderate severity · drivable
A Chevy with P0171 is drivable short-term, but a lean mixture can cause misfires and should be fixed soon.
What P0171 means on a Chevy
On a Chevy, P0171 means bank 1 is running lean — too much air or not enough fuel — and the ECM has maxed out its fuel correction. Chevy's computer compares the MAF sensor, oxygen sensors, and fuel trims, and when the mixture stays lean it sets P0171.
Is P0171 common on Chevys?
P0171 is common on Silverados, Malibus, and Equinoxes with higher mileage. On Chevy V8s, a cracked intake gasket is a classic lean cause, and a dirty MAF sensor or vacuum leak are frequent on all models.
Commonly reported on: Silverado, Malibu, Equinox, Impala.
