P0108 on a BMW: Causes, Fixes & Repair Cost
๐ Moderate severity ยท drivable
Safe to drive, but the engine may run rough, hesitate, and use more fuel until the sensor is fixed.
What P0108 means on a BMW
On a BMW, P0108 means the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor is reporting a higher voltage than expected. BMW uses MAP sensors on many engines, including turbocharged ones where the sensor sits in the intake tract, and some of these sensors also read intake air temperature. A faulty sensor or wiring issue can cause rough running and reduced power.
Is P0108 common on BMWs?
P0108 is not unusual on BMWs like the 3 Series and 5 Series, and on turbo engines the sensor and its harness live in a hot engine bay that can bake connectors over time. The sensor itself is the usual failure point, though a boost or vacuum leak can also upset the readings.
Commonly reported on: 3 Series, 5 Series, X3, X5.
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Rough idle
- Hesitation or reduced power
- Worse fuel economy
Common causes
- most common: Faulty MAP or TMAP sensor
- common: Signal wire shorted toward 5 volts
- common: Heat-damaged wiring or connector
- less common: Boost or vacuum leak upsetting the reading
How to fix it
| Fix | DIY? | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|
| Replace the MAP sensor | Yes | $60โ150 |
| Repair the wiring or connector | Mechanic | $80โ200 |
