P0441 on a GMC: Causes, Fixes & Repair Cost
🟠 Moderate severity · drivable
You can drive it, but fix the purge valve soon — a stuck-open valve can cause fuel smells and a hard start after filling up.
What P0441 means on a GMC
On a GMC, P0441 means the EVAP system is not purging fuel vapors at the flow rate the engine computer expects. The purge valve on the engine is the usual cause — on GM vehicles it is known to stick open, which lets too much vapor into the intake. The truck or SUV still runs, but the check engine light stays on.
Is P0441 common on GMCs?
P0441 is a common code on GMC trucks and SUVs like the Sierra and Yukon as the purge valve ages. A purge valve that sticks open can pull in too much fuel vapor, which causes a fuel smell and can make the engine idle rough or start hard after a fill-up. A cracked hose or bad connector causes it less often.
Commonly reported on: Sierra, Yukon, Terrain, Acadia.
