P0521 on a Mazda: Causes, Fixes & Repair Cost
๐ Moderate severity ยท drivable
Check the oil level before driving, and stop the engine if the oil pressure warning stays on.
What P0521 means on a Mazda
On a Mazda, P0521 means the oil pressure sensor's signal is out of the expected range for the current engine speed. The sensor sends pressure data to the engine computer, and when the reading does not change as it should with RPM, the computer sets this code. A failing sensor is the usual cause, but a real oil pressure problem is possible too.
Is P0521 common on Mazdas?
P0521 is less common on Mazdas than on some other brands, but it does appear on higher-mileage Mazda3 and Mazda6 models with MZR engines and on CX-5s with Skyactiv engines, where age and heat take a toll on the sensor's connector and wiring. Mazda's oil pressure warning light is separate from the check engine system, so both can act up together when the sensor fails.
Commonly reported on: Mazda3, Mazda6, CX-5, CX-9.
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
