P0521 on a GMC: Causes, Fixes & Repair Cost
๐ Moderate severity ยท drivable
Check the oil level before driving, and stop the engine if the oil pressure warning stays on.
What P0521 means on a GMC
On a GMC, P0521 means the oil pressure sensor is sending a signal that is out of the expected range for the current engine speed. On GM V8 engines the sensor sits near the back of the engine block, where heat and age make it a common failure. The engine computer sets the code when the reading does not match RPM the way it should.
Is P0521 common on GMCs?
P0521 is common on older Sierras and Yukons with Vortec V8s, where the oil pressure sensor fails as it ages, and Terrain and Acadia models with 2.4L and 3.6L engines see it too. Because the sensor is tucked behind the engine, it is one of the more common oil-pressure codes GMC owners search for.
Commonly reported on: Sierra, Yukon, Terrain, Acadia.
