P0121 on a Ford: Causes, Fixes & Repair Cost
๐ Moderate severity ยท drivable
Usually drivable, but the engine may go into reduced-power mode, so drive carefully and get it checked soon.
What P0121 means on a Ford
On a Ford, P0121 means the throttle position sensor signal does not match the expected engine conditions. Newer Fords use drive-by-wire with the sensor inside the throttle body, and carbon buildup in the throttle body is a known problem on Focus and Escape models. On older cable-throttle models, the separate throttle position sensor wears out.
Is P0121 common on Fords?
P0121 appears on Focus, Escape, and F-150 models, often with throttle body carbon or a failing throttle body. Ford throttle body issues are well known on these models, and cleaning or replacing the throttle body is the usual fix.
Commonly reported on: F-150, Focus, Escape, Explorer.
