P0172 on a Lexus: Causes, Fixes & Repair Cost
🟠 Moderate severity · drivable
You can drive short-term, but the rich mixture wastes fuel and can damage the catalytic converter, so fix it soon.
What P0172 means on a Lexus
On a Lexus, P0172 means bank 1 is running rich — too much fuel or not enough air in the mixture. The Lexus computer has already reduced fuel to its limit and still sees a rich mixture, so it stores P0172.
Is P0172 common on Lexuss?
P0172 shows up on Lexus models with higher mileage, commonly the ES, RX, and IS. As with Toyotas, a contaminated MAF sensor is a frequent cause, especially after oiled aftermarket air filters coat the sensor. Aging oxygen sensors and leaking fuel injectors are the other common culprits.
Commonly reported on: ES, RX, IS, GX.
