P0172 on a Chevy: Causes, Fixes & Repair Cost
🟠 Moderate severity · drivable
You can drive short-term, but the rich mixture wastes fuel and can damage the catalytic converter, so fix it soon.
What P0172 means on a Chevy
On a Chevy, P0172 means bank 1 is running rich — too much fuel or not enough air in the mixture. The GM computer has already pulled fuel out as far as it can and still sees a rich condition, so it sets the code.
Is P0172 common on Chevys?
P0172 appears on Chevys with higher mileage, especially trucks like the Silverado and Tahoe as well as the Equinox and Malibu. A contaminated MAF sensor and aging oxygen sensors are the usual causes. Leaking fuel injectors can also make the mixture rich.
Commonly reported on: Silverado, Tahoe, Equinox, Malibu.
