P0341 on a BMW: Causes, Fixes & Repair Cost
๐ Moderate severity ยท drivable
You can usually keep driving a BMW with P0341, but the engine may idle rough or stall, so get it checked soon.
What P0341 means on a BMW
On a BMW, P0341 means the engine computer sees a camshaft position signal from bank 1 that is outside the expected range. The sensor works with the VANOS variable valve timing system to help time fuel injection and ignition. A bad sensor, oil in the connector, or a stretched timing chain can all make the reading drift.
Is P0341 common on BMWs?
P0341 is a fairly common fault on BMW six-cylinder engines like the N52 and N54 as the camshaft position sensors age. Oil leaking into the sensor connector is a known pattern on this brand, and higher-mileage cars can also have timing chain wear. The engine usually keeps running, but idle and performance can suffer.
Commonly reported on: 3 Series, 5 Series, X3, X5.
