P0741 on a Chevy: Causes, Fixes & Repair Cost
๐ Moderate severity ยท drivable
A Chevy with P0741 is drivable, but the torque converter won't lock up, so fuel economy drops and the transmission runs hotter.
What P0741 means on a Chevy
On a Chevy, P0741 means the torque converter clutch isn't locking up when the transmission computer commands it. The 4L60E in Chevy trucks and SUVs is well known for TCC solenoid and pump wear, and the newer 6L80 can develop TCC shudder. In both cases the computer detects that the lockup clutch is slipping or stuck off.
Is P0741 common on Chevys?
P0741 is a familiar code on higher-mileage 4L60E trucks, where TCC solenoid failure is a documented pattern. Low or old fluid makes it worse, and a shudder at highway speed is a common early warning on the 6L80.
Commonly reported on: Silverado, Tahoe, Malibu, Equinox.
