P0463 on a BMW: Causes, Fixes & Repair Cost
๐ข Low severity ยท drivable
Safe to drive, but the fuel gauge may be wrong โ track your miles or fill up often so you don't run out of gas.
What P0463 means on a BMW
On a BMW, P0463 means one of the fuel level senders is reporting voltage that's too high, so the computer thinks the tank is full. Most BMWs use a saddle-shaped tank with a sender on each side: one is part of the fuel pump module, and the other sits on the opposite side. The engine runs fine; the gauge is what reads wrong.
Is P0463 common on BMWs?
P0463 is common on higher-mileage BMWs like the 3 Series, 5 Series, and X3. The senders' resistor strips wear over time, and each side can fail separately, so it helps to know which bank is at fault. It's a gauge issue, not a drivability issue.
Commonly reported on: 3 Series, 5 Series, X3.
