P0011 on a Toyota: Causes, Fixes & Repair Cost
๐ Moderate severity ยท drivable
You can usually drive a Toyota to a shop with P0011, but check the oil level first, and if the engine runs rough or the light flashes, have it towed.
What P0011 means on a Toyota
On a Toyota, P0011 means the VVT-i system is advancing the intake camshaft timing on bank 1 further than the computer commanded. The camshaft ends up ahead of where it should be, usually because the VVT oil control valve cannot move or hold it correctly.
Is P0011 common on Toyotas?
P0011 is common on higher-mileage Toyotas with VVT-i engines, including the Camry, Corolla, RAV4, and Avalon. The usual cause is a dirty or stuck oil control valve, often from overdue oil changes or sludge, and low oil level or pressure can also set the code.
Commonly reported on: Camry, Corolla, RAV4, Avalon.
