P0011 on a Volkswagen: Causes, Fixes & Repair Cost
๐ Moderate severity ยท drivable
You can usually drive a Volkswagen to a shop with P0011, but check the oil level first, and if the engine runs rough or the light flashes, have it towed.
What P0011 means on a Volkswagen
On a Volkswagen, P0011 means the variable valve timing system is advancing the intake camshaft on bank 1 further than the computer commanded. The camshaft is ahead of where it should be, usually because a VVT solenoid or cam phaser is sticking.
Is P0011 common on Volkswagens?
P0011 shows up on VW's 2.0T engines in the Jetta, Golf, Passat, and Tiguan. A failing VVT solenoid, low oil pressure, or a worn cam phaser are common causes, and on some 2.0T engines timing chain and tensioner wear can also set this code.
Commonly reported on: Jetta, Golf, Passat, Tiguan.
