P0011 on a Chevy: Causes, Fixes & Repair Cost
๐ Moderate severity ยท drivable
You can usually drive a Chevy to a shop with P0011, but check the oil level first, and if the engine runs rough or the light flashes, have it towed.
What P0011 means on a Chevy
On a Chevy, P0011 means the variable valve timing system is advancing the intake camshaft on bank 1 further than the computer commanded. The camshaft is ahead of where it should be, usually because a VVT solenoid or cam phaser is sticking.
Is P0011 common on Chevys?
P0011 shows up on Chevy models with VVT engines, including the Silverado, Equinox, Malibu, and Tahoe. VVT solenoids are a known wear item on GM engines and often fail when the oil is overdue or sludged, and low oil pressure can also trigger the code.
Commonly reported on: Silverado, Equinox, Malibu, Tahoe.
