P0011 on a Volvo: Causes, Fixes & Repair Cost
๐ Moderate severity ยท drivable
You can usually drive a Volvo to a shop with P0011, but check the oil level first, and if the engine runs rough or the light flashes, have it towed.
What P0011 means on a Volvo
On a Volvo, P0011 means the variable valve timing system is advancing the intake camshaft on bank 1 further than the computer commanded. The camshaft is ahead of where it should be, usually because a VVT solenoid or cam phaser is sticking.
Is P0011 common on Volvos?
P0011 shows up on Volvo four- and five-cylinder engines in the S60, XC60, XC90, and S90. A failing VVT solenoid, low oil level, or a worn cam phaser are the common causes, and overdue oil changes can make the timing system act up.
Commonly reported on: S60, XC60, XC90, S90.
